Well hello there!
I’m Vladimir Halinen, founder of CatPick Studios.
Music has always been my greatest passion, but it took over 20 years to figure out what I love about it the most: writing and recording my own music.
I started the CatPick Studios YouTube channel in 2017 because I loved everything guitar and wanted to share my passion with others. While I don’t feel I’m anywhere close to the end of my journey it’s already been an amazing ride: meeting amazing people, travelling to new countries, breaking world records in the largest band in the world and so on…
Somewhere along the way I also found home recording and realised I could create all the music I wanted right from my home studio. I loved the idea of being able to create professional sounding records right from my spare bedroom and have never looked back.
At the same time, I feel I have also found my calling to share what I’ve learned through my own countless trial and error. If anything I say or do can help you find your passion in recording and songwriting, then my job is complete.
Long term, I want to build a community of songwriters who support each other and help each other grow.

Some of the projects I've been involved with.
Verso Music – Ikiaikainen EP 2021
The Ikiaikainen EP is one of the best and most challenging projects I’ve been a part of. Balancing the roles of producer, songwriter, vocal producer, lead vocalist, guitarist and studio engineer was a lot to handle, with the pandemic making things like scheduling recording sessions extremely complicated.
The end result was worth it, though, and I’m incredibly proud of our team for pushing through and getting this thing out.

CatPick Jams Vol. 1 – Instrumental Music
One of the best things about starting my own YouTube channel many years ago has been the huge increase in the amount of my own songwriting I’ve had to do. I love sitting down and coming up with a song on the spot, and that’s how most of these songs came to be. This album is a diary of the the past six years or so and it’s fun to hear how both my songwriting and production skills have improved over the years.

Veden Alla (Cover)
Originally created for a theatre play my wife wrote and directed, this cover ended up being so good that me and my sister (the vocalist) decided to publish it separately as well.
I took a lot of elements from the original song and mixed them with rock guitars and big vocal layers to create an even more dramatic arch than the original.

Velvet Revolver -Slither (Cover)
Slash is one of my favourite guitar players and I remember this song absolutely blowing my mind when it came out. I love the energy and the dark lyrics of this song. One of the first covers ever on my channel was the ukulele version of this song and few years later I decided to do a full band arrangement and invite friends to play on it.

Kingdom Come (Cover)
I used to play in a folk/pop/rock band called Heartsong where, besides getting to play great music, I learned a lot about running a band, playing gigs, touring and recording. Those experiences put me where I am today.
I still like how this cover turned out, even though it was my one of my first times recording a band live.
